M - Manly Beach

Welcome to our tour of Australia. During the month of April we are going to visit our favourite spots in Australia. Come join us on our walkabout through the land down under.

Yesterday we went towards the outback and looked for opals. Click here if you missed that post. Today we head to one of our favourite beaches.

Manly beach is located on the northern shores of Sydney. It is a popular tourist destination and is an easy ferry ride from the city centre. Sure you can drive there but the ferry ride is far more interesting as you get a great look at the harbour as you take the 30 minute ride to Manly. Once you get to Manly there is a stunning beach, shopping and great places for a meal or a room for the night. Make sure Manly is part of your Sydney itinerary.
What I loved: The journey to Manly is half the fun as you see so much of the harbour. The time flies by and it seems like you are at Manly in no time. The beach is the perfect place to enjoy a take away meal or there are plenty of places to enjoy a meal with a water view. There is always something to see and do which makes every visit special.
Cost - Prices are in Australian Dollars
Ferry tickets to Manly are about $16 round trip ($12.50 USD) or buy an all day pass that includes trains, buses and ferries for $24 ($18 USD) On Sundays you can get all day travel for $2.50 with an opal card)

Address: Manly, NSW Australia

These steps are the perfect place to watch the surf roll in.

There is plenty of table and benches to enjoy a picnic meal as well.

and the beach is just steps away from the stores, pubs and restaurants.

No visit to Manly would be complete without getting some good tucker. We love doner kabobs and these ones were pretty good.

Manly is a pretty popular place but it never seemed overcrowded.

The ferry terminal is a quick 5-10 minute walk from the beach so you can be in the Pacific in no time.
Getting There.
Ferry: This is the easiest and most scenic way to travel. There is several non stop ferries that go to Manly from Circular Quay
Car: Manly is a 30-40 minute drive from the city centre.
Air: Sydney airport is the closest airport. From the airport take a train to Circular Quay then the ferry to Manly.
Train: Circular Quay is the closest station to the ferry. Circular Quay is on several rail lines including the airport line and from Central Station.

Have you ever been to Manly Beach or something similar? What are you blogging about today?

  1. That's an interesting name for a beach. Whenever I travel, if there's a beach nearby I'd have to go to it. :)

  3. Manly beach looks pretty fun. Nice shops, good food, and a stylin' beach to hang out on. What more do you need?

  5. Looks like a great beach to explore! I agree, I think I would want to take the ferry too just to see the sites on the way to the beach.

  6. My family visited Manly Beach years and years (and years!) ago. My memories are a bit faded, but I do remember it being a gorgeous beach. Lovely photos--they're a handy reminder that I definitely need to go back someday.

  8. A day trip to Manly is always lovely. I haven't done one in ages. I should try and fit one in one day soon.
