What is there to love about Gilmore Girls? Ummm...where do I start?
The two main characters are Loralei (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) - they are mother and daughter. Because Loralei had Rory when she was only 16 years old, they are more like friends than mother/daughter. The relationship they have through most of the seasons is just one of my fave things about the show.
They live in a fictional town in Connecticut called Stars Hollow. The town has some crazy characters who allow for some crazy and comedic moments in the show...
Suki, Loralei's best friend and the chef at the Inn where they both work, is played by Melissa McCarthy and she was as accomplished an actress then as she is now
Luke, the local diner owner and Loralei's love interest for a few seasons, is cranky but sweet and just an all-around great guy
Lane is Rory's best friend who breaks away from her devout Christian mother to join a rock band
Dean and Jess are Rory's high school boyfriends, Logan is her main squeeze in college
Loralei seriously dates Max, one of Rory's high school teachers, Luke (the diner owner), and Chris (Rory's dad) over the seven seasons
Taylor, Babette, Miss Patty, and Kirk are regular characters whose plot lines are super entertaining
Emily and Richard Gilmore live in nearby Hartford and are Loralei's parents. The relationship is strained between them so it makes for some great story lines.
The real reason I love the show is because of the writing of the producer - Amy Sherman-Palladino - who has an incredible skill for comedic timing and for writing lines and scenes that suck you in. The actors listed above then take those lines and deliver them impeccably. I have watched the episodes many times and will continue to do so as long as ABC Family keeps the reruns on the air. Here are some quotes (there are so many to choose from!!) -

Incidentally, if you loved Gilmore Girls and are looking for something similar - the show Bunheads on ABC Family is produced by the same lady and it seems like in each episode another actor or actress from GG has shown up on Bunheads (Kirk, Logan, Paris, Gypsy, Al, Emily, etc).
Did you watch Gilmore Girls or do you watch Bunheads?
Happy Watching,
