Saturday Snapshots: Bicentennial Park

Today we are linking up with Melinda at West Metro Mommy for Super Saturday Snapshots.

Today's photos are from my home town in Australia. Back in 1988 Australia celebrated its Bicentennial of European settlement. I was only ten back then but I remember that there were many celebrations throughout the country. My home town decided to turn an old sports field that was near the centre of town into a scenic park in celebration of the Bicentennial. The park has many different features such as granite sculptures, short walking trails, ponds and a big stage where they could hold free concerts. They did a really great job at making the park something that Tamworth could be proud of. Below is a few photos of Bicentennial Park that I took right before I moved to America

 Bicentennial Park sign.

The main lake that forms the centre piece of the park. There are walking trails that goes around the lake.

One of the many statues celebrating Australia's country music artists. Tamworth is known as the Country Music Capital and has a big festival every January.

The concert stage and grass field. There are concerts and other events that are held throughout the year.

The park is often home to a large family of ducks and other wildlife.

Just outside the front gates of the park is the central business district of town. When you are in the park it is sometimes hard to remember that you are so close to the hustle and bustle of down town Tamworth.

So that is a quick tour of Bicentennial Park. Does your current town or home town have a beautiful park?

  1. That is a great park. Yes, we have a park I love in my town. It's a work-in-progress, with the building of the trails and amenities in stops and spurts. In summer I walk the main trail every day. It is lovely.

  2. It does look a nice park, but I've been to Tamworth, (and even have some 19th century family connections there)- and so I had to laugh at the hustle and bustle of Tamworth!

  3. Wonderful park! I live within a mile of a beautiful park that I seldom visit...probably because it is huge, and I usually feel the need to take the car. Then there's parking...and a fee to get in...LOL.

Thanks for sharing the shots...and for visiting my blog.

  4. Bicentennial Park looks like a lovely, quiet escape. I'm always delighted when cities set aside green spaces like this for all to enjoy.
This week my Saturday Snapshots are of MOUNT RAINIER.

  5. Lovely pictures. I live a short walk from Richmond Park (on the edge of London), a corner of wildlife on the edge of the city. Very lucky.

  6. Lovely green space in your little city ... I live in the wilds of New Hampshire. Our little village has a small town green, around which are gathered the town ahll, the local community church, the town library, a few antique stores, the village inn/pub, and some private residences. No park as such, but a lovely green space that hosts village fairs, summertime concerts, the occasional kickball game or Frisbee throw by the local children, and quiet picnics sometimes for tourists who are exploring the area ...
