His: Sunday Social

We have been a little slack over the last few weeks with the blog. Amanda is out of town participating in some professional development so I figured I would go ahead and do this solo until she returns later in the week. Today I am am linking up with the ladies at The Sunday Social and its all about movies.

1. What is your favorite movie of all time? I have a few favourites but if I had to pick one it would have to be Back to the Future. I know there are 3 movies but I treat them as one long movie. It was great when it was released in the 80's and its still just as good to rewatch for the 100th or so time today.

2. What is your favorite movie quote? Its from Billy Madison.
Ohhhhh...
Back 2 School
Back 2 School
To Prove To Dad That I'm Not A Fool
I've Got My Lunch Packed Up,
My Boots Tied Tight,
I Hope I Don't Get In A Fight
Ohhhh...
Back To School
Back To School
Back To School...

3. What is the best movie to watch for a girls guys night in? I think we would take far too long to pick a movie and would end up just watching a game on TV and having some drinks.

4. Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life? Probably Tom Hanks as he is probably one of the best actors ever, no matter the role.

Well thats it for this week. We love comments so please share you answers to the above questions. If you have a blog please include your URL so we can swing by and say hi!

Her Weigh-In (6/4/2013)

Hello again! Happy Tuesday and Weigh-In Day for me! Here are the results...

Weigh-In: -2.1
Yay!!!! This makes me very happy. :) Here's hoping that I can continue on this path.

I talked in last week's post about how I have switched from WW to myfitnesspal. I am still loving the switch and am so grateful that I made that choice. Here's what I have found to be true -

Weight Watchers chooses Points Plus values based on four criteria -
Source
Then based on your age and current weight, they determine how many points you get each day. Everyone gets a separate set of points for the week that can be used whenever/how you choose. Sounds good right? Well, let's do a comparison...

A typical day on WW would have me running over my daily points and needing some weekly points. Each workout would only provide between 3 and 5 additional points for the day. (For those who are not on WW, the nutrition bar I ate to give me energy for a workout is 5 points so I was working off what I ate so I could work out. A vicious cycle!) I put my normal day into myfitnesspal (remember, that would have had me over my points) and found out that I had eaten only 1,490 calories that day. With my workout, my total caloric count was 1,094. Wow!! No wonder I am always hungry at the end of the day.

Another example --- According to Weight Watchers, a lunch of a WW friendly pasta dish, carrots, and 1 tbsp of Fat Free Ranch Dip was 12 points. Sounds like a lot right? Well, I put that whole meal into myfitnesspal and it is only 488 calories. Seeing that shocked me to the core. Those two numbers seem like polar opposites. How can 488 calories be 12 points?!?!

A final example -- My workout of 30 minutes of cardio and a few strength machines used to get me 5 WW points (that's not even half of my lunch). I had a hard time wanting to go to the gym when I wasn't even going to work off half of my lunch. When I put in the same information to myfitnesspal it said I had burned 527 calories. That means I worked off my lunch and then some. That's motivation right there!

I'm not saying that WW is a flawed system. It works for millions each day and it worked for me for a while. What I am saying is that with the issues I talked about above, I decided that the program was not for me anymore. Counting calories is proving to be much easier and more motivational.

Have you tried myfitnesspal? What did you think?

Happy Losing,

Her June Currently

It's the start of a new month - the month that will start another summer vacation...YAY!!! - which means it is time to link up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade to show what I am "Currently" up to. Here goes...

Listening: I love cooking shows and I love baking so I was really excited about this new show on CBS. So far, I'm liking what I am seeing.

Loving: Our state testing is over for my grade and students. I don't know what it is about testing, but it is exhausting! I'm not even doing anything and I'm tired when we are done - I don't know how the kids do it.

Thinking: Shouldn't the school year be winding down right now? I have meetings galore after school, bunches of things going on during school. Only 9 more days...only 9 more days!

Wanting: I will be in a wedding in July that I would love to lose a few more pounds for, but I cannot find the motivation or energy to go to the gym. Ugh!

Needing: There is not enough time in the day to do everything I need and want to do --- and clean my house. Seriously, the best gift anyone could give me would  be a cleaning service. Volunteers? My birthday is coming up??

3 Vacay Essentials: A camera is a given because I love taking photos and looking through them later. A book because I love to read and I don't go anywhere without a book. My knitting would have to tag along because I bet I could get a lot done when I wasn't running here-there-and-everywhere (like a normal day).

That is this month's Currently. Head over to Farley's page to join in the fun.

Happy June!
