His and Her Happies and Crappies (Week 45)

It's Friday so let's recap our week's --

Happies:
Work was pretty uneventful. We got off on time or a little most days this week which is not normally the case.

I had another successful platelet donation. I had some issues when donating shortly after coming home from Australia. The staff suggested I was probably mildly dehydrated and after increasing my fluid intake for several days prior to the donation I have had no issues.

 The weather has been pretty good and hasn't been too cold. It is supposed to get cold soon so it may be on the crappies list for next week.

Thankfully it hasn't gotten this cold yet.

We have about 40 students who have joined Drama Club this year. They are funny and happy - committed to the activities we are doing. I am going to go ahead and say it - this is going to be our best year ever!!

We had our very first Grading Party Thursday night. We met at Panera to eat, chat, laugh, and grade the piles of papers we all had to deal with. It was so much fun and I really hope we do it again!

My students are so super sweet! One of them could tell I was having a bad day on Wednesday so he kept cracking jokes to make me smile. Another told me today that she was going to miss me this weekend. So sweet!!

 Crappies:
- Dealing with slow people in the self checkout registers at the grocery store. I ran in there one day this week and a lady rushed to beat me to the last open self serve register and then proceeded to go slower than a turtle to scan her 5 items. The other 3 people using the self serve were no faster. I wish people who use the self serve registers in a quick and efficient manner would just use a regular checkout lane and leave the self serve for those who can use it without causing a massive backup.

 - Searching for discs in the carpet of leaves that cover the ground this time of year. It's nice not having to worry about mozzies, ticks and poison ivy this time of year but you have to keep a close eye out to where the disc lands. Even if you know where it landed it can still be a issue to find the disc as it tends to get buried which can get frustrating as it is always your favourite disc that goes missing. (Thankfully I am always able to find them after searching aimlessly for several minutes).

See if you can find the disc in this pile of leaves. (hint - Its blue)

Looooong hours at work this week! The only day I left before dark was Thursday and that was because of the grading party. I think Alex is going to forget what I look like soon!

I have now finished my second full week of dealing with this crappy head cold. My voice is only at about 50% and my throat hurts all the time. It is time for this cold to go away!

His and Her Never, Ever, Ever (Week 23)

It is Tuesday, so it is time to play --

Amanda will never, ever, ever...
-not drink coffee on a cold fall morning. It gets me going!

-like waking up at 5am for work. I am not a morning person!

-stop over-analzying myself, my teaching styles, and my lesson plans after seeing the students' exam grades. 


Sean will never, ever, ever...
-like being cold. If I had my way it would never get below 60F/15C. It's starting to get chilly here and it's a reminder that winter is just around the corner.

-enjoy searching for my discs in the leaves during fall. It's very easy for them to slide under the leaves and stay buried for months so it's important to watch where they land this time of year.

-move anywhere where it would snow on a regular basis. It gets cold enough here in VA, and it's about as cold as I would be comfortable with. Shoveling my driveway every week is not my idea of a fun workout.

I am heading to South Carolina today with my parents to celebrate our niece's 1st birthday. 

I got to go into work later than normal so I was able to stop at Chick-Fil-A and get chicken biscuits for the crew at work.

Got to play disc golf on Wednesday for the first time in a few weeks. Glad to get a practice round in before the tournament tomorrow.

 

Crappies:
Two words - sub plans! Ick!!!

I can't go with Amanda and her parents to South Carolina because someone has to stay with the puppy. Sad!

Happies:
Spirit Week!!!

Tuesday was "Tacky Tourist Day". This was my favorite day!! :)

My students seem to be grasping the English concepts I have been teaching. That is such a good feeling! Here's hoping it sticks!

Knitting night at Panera on Wednesday was so fun. I love those nights of putting aside all the drama at school and just having fun with friends. (The grilled cheese sandwich and potato soup were amazing also!)

We were able to return to our church Community Group last night after missing last week. It was nice to see everyone and enjoy their company while diving a little further into the lesson from this week's sermon.

I took an hour and a half nap today. :)
 


Crappies:
(Read the backstory about the doggie here.) We found out Tuesday that the dog we attempted to rescue was unable to be saved. Animal Control humanely euthanized her due to her excessive illnesses and injuries on Tuesday.
Bright Note: On Sunday, we stopped at the grooming center of PetSmart first because we didn't know where to go for help. The girls there were so nice that Amanda made brownies for them. Sean delivered them on Monday and they asked him to wait to see the store manager. She told him that the girls were so touched by our kindness to the poor doggie that they told her the story first thing that morning. The manager agreed with them and wanted to thank us for being so thoughtful. She gave us some of Alex's favorite treats (and of course he has expensive taste) --- a bucket worth $23.

We are both over all of the rain. It poured down rain Wednesday and Thursday. It has been drizzly today. If we wanted this kind of weather, we would move to Seattle or England. Where is the sun??
