Saturday Snapshots: Monkey Quilt

Have you liked our "His and Her Hobbies" Facebook page? If not, click here!

Today we are linking up with Melinda at West Metro Mommy for Super Saturday Snapshots.

I started my first quilt last December and figured it would take a couple of weeks at most to complete. I kept the design fairly simple but it ended up taking a lot longer than I expected. (I wrote a post about my progress back in April which you can check out by clicking here) I am happy to announce that I have finally finished the quilt and in time for my niece's birthday later this month. The quilt is 3ft (91cm) by 5 feet (152cm) so she can use it in the living room or even on her toddler bed. I am very happy that I was finally able to complete it. Below are some photos of the completed quilt.

The front of the quilt is a patchwork design with monkeys on it. I tried to keep the design fairly simple for my first quilt.

I chose this fabric for the back of the quilt.

The quilting pattern was wavy lines with leaves every so often. It is a nice effect without being too complex.

A closer view of both sides of the quilt.

Now that this quilt is done I have moved onto my next quilt which is a bubble/biscuit quilt for my nephew that is due next month. I will post pictures of it once it is completed.

Have you ever made a quilt?

  2. Congratulations on making your first quilt. You chose a great pattern and cute fabric for your first creation -- good job! I'm a quilter too (I've posted photos on my blog in the past), but I've never tried a biscuit quilt. It will be fun to see yours. I hope you enjoy the process.
Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog post.

  3. Great job on a first quilt. Pink and green and giggling monkeys, your niece is sure to love it. I, too , am a quilter and made a monkey quilt for a girl in the office where I worked. It was fun. I am anxious to see your biscuit quilt, I have never done one.

  5. I have only made one quilt, which I have written about here http://ginxcraft.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/my-family-heirloom.html I do think I might be ready for another one, but to plan it a bit more. I love the monkey fabric you have used.

  7. You picked such a cute and fun design! How did your niece enjoy it?

I have never quilted. The art of sewing, knitting, and all things fabric never came natural to me. When younger, I tried for the sake of doing stuff with my grandmother.

My aunt loves to quilt. Their basement is full of quilt equipment. She also gave a quilt a few years back to my husband and me.
