His and Her GBU, 12/10/2012

Hi all! We are linking up with two awesome girls, Kati and Kate (buttons below - you should check them out!!), to tell the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of our weekend. Here goes...

The Good: Christmastown at Busch Gardens was AHHH-MAZING!!! They weren't kidding when they said there were six million lights in the park. I didn't personally count but it was impressively beautiful at every turn. We had so much fun! Here are a few photos - we will do a series of posts this week with more.
Two photos from Ireland and the tree at the entrance to the park

These little guys were well worth the wait!

This pathway, covered in lights and polar bears, was a favorite last year and this year!

The Bad: (Amanda) It never fails that when Interim (progress report) time and Report Card time roll around, I am behind with my grading. I always say that I'm going to do better and every time I fall behind. It's not that I take too many grades, it's that there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to deal with the entire to-do list. The grading is always my "That can be done tomorrow" item. *sigh* Sunday was marathon-grading day - so, so, so bad!

Poor bun coverage on prime rib sandwich. Poor value for $10.99
The Ugly: (Sean) Christmastown as a whole was an enjoyable experience but the dining at Festhaus put a damper on it. First, we had to wait to get into the building for about 35 minutes. Once we got in, the lines at the food service counters were short which ended up being the highlight here. We all ended up purchasing a prime rib sandwich and it was quite pricy at $10.99. After paying and finding a seat, I looked at my sandwich to discover that the piece of meat that was served didn't even cover the bun it was served on. The rest of my family didn't fare much better in their serving size. I felt very much ripped off, even for being in a theme park. No matter where you go to eat, you should get enough meat to cover the bun you are serving it on (it's called bun coverage). I understand that it is a business but when dining guests are paying almost $11 for a piece of beef, a bun, and some fries the least you could do is make an attempt to make it look presentable. The sad part about this experience is that normally the servings at Busch Gardens are quite good and I have never had cause to complain before. Perhaps this is an isolated incident and I hope this is the case. I doubt I will return to eat in the Festhaus during a Christmastown event after this experience and will either eat at another location at Busch Gardens or offsite after my visit.

Those are some highlights from our weekend. What would make your Good, Bad, and Ugly list?

Happy Monday!

  1. Oh my gosh, I love the idea of a husband and wife blogging together! That is absolutely ADORABLE! My fiance was talking about starting a blog, but he kept saying it was "girly" (much to my protests!) I'm totally showing him yours!

I've never been to Busch Gardens, but it looks gorgeous! SO glad you linked up with us! :)

  2. Ugh, our grades are due immediately after winter break, so of course I feel all this pressure to do it now - I hear you about always being behind. Or at least, in the two quarters I've been teaching, that seems to be my experience! :)

    Happy Monday!

  3. Having enough stuff to cover your buns is important... with food and at the pool!

Cute blog! (I have the same design... and I love the color!)

  4. Thanks ladies for your comments!
Kate - We started the blog together. My hubby likes blogging almost as much as I do. :) It's fun to plan posts together.
Kati - Good luck with the grading. We have until the end of January before our marking period ends, but I stayed late on Wednesday (our last day) to finish grading everything so I wouldn't have to do it over break. It's nice to have the time off from grading papers.
