Saturday Snapshots: Messenger Bag

Have you liked our "His and Her Hobbies" Facebook page? If not, click here!

Today we are linking up with Melinda at West Metro Mommy for Super Saturday Snapshots.

Last year Amanda was looking for a messenger tote bag for her to use on her field trip. No matter how hard we looked in stores and online we weren't able to find one that was the right size. So I decided I would attempt to make one. Since we weren't able to find a pattern for the style of bag she wanted I just made it up as we went along. The finished product was not perfect but was pretty good for my first attempt. Here are some photos of the bag.

The bag has adjustable strap and can be worn cross body.

Before sewing in the interior lining and pockets I used some fusible webbing to give it structure.

It has 7 interior pockets of various sizes with one of them having a zipper.

Close up view of some of the pockets.

The completed bag.

Have you ever tried making a bag for yourself or a friend? What did you blog about today?

  8. It may be your first attempt, but that is pretty darn impressive!! I can sew a straight seam for hems and curtains, but after that it's all Greek to me. Incorporating all those great pockets is perfect - keep it up and I see an etsy store in your future :-)

  9. Wow. That is impressive. I had the same difficulty trying to find a bag before my husband and I left for France. I ended up finding a quilted bag at World Market, not as nice as this one though. Here's Mine

  14. This looks really nice! I have a few messenger bag ideas pinned to my Pinterest boards. I need to get one made by the end of the summer so I have a bag for my books in the fall. I don't know that it will be as fancy as this one though. Those pockets are great!
