Super Saturday Snapshots - March 8, 2014

Today we are linking up with Melinda at West Metro Mommy for Super Saturday Snapshots.

Today's photos are from my trip that I took to New Zealand in 1993. I was in 9th grade at the time and our school had an annual trip during spring break that went around the south island of New Zealand. I was fortunate enough to go and got some great memories and photos including the ones I am sharing below.

Part of the Canterbury Plains and the Southern Alps in the background.

Punchbowl Falls. From here it is about a 30 minute hike to the falls that you can see in the distance in this photo.

One of the many snow capped mountains in the Southern Alps.

Reflecting lake. We were told it is usually this still which allows for photos like this.

Franz Josef Glacier. It took about 45 minutes to hike to this glacier but it was well worth the walk. We saw some people climbing it with ice picks and climbing gear.

Another of the many waterfalls in New Zealand.

Every corner brought new scenery it seemed throughout the journey.

We went skiing at Cadrona ski resort. It was early September so it was nice and warm so I was able to ski in a t-shirt and pants.

This is one of the more famous bridges in New Zealand. It was also the bridge that was in the Reebok bungee jumping ad. (here's a link to the video of the ad if you haven't seen it)

Bungy jumping is a popular activity for tourists in New Zealand. If you are going to hurl yourself off a bridge attached to a big rubber band you may as well have nice scenery like you do here.

Jet boating through the Shotover Canyon. This was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting New Zealand.

Lake Wakatipu from the top of the Skyline Gondola ride at Queenstown.

Inside the crater of a extinct volcano just outside of Christchurch. It is now a bay and a shipping port.

The Christchurch Cathedral. It was severely damaged in an earthquake in 2011 and is in the process of being demolished as it sustained too much damage to be salvaged.

New Zealand was a great experience and is a destination I would love to return to. The photos really don't do it justice as it is such a beautiful place. It is well worth the long plane ride there and I highly recommend visiting if you ever get the chance.

Happy snapping!
