Her Weigh In (3/12/13)

I was dreading this weigh in, that's for sure. Much damage was done by poor choices. Here goes -

Weigh-In:+1.1

What I did...
Right - Ummmmm...I honestly am not sure I did a whole lot right this week.

Wrong - Saturday, Saturday, Saturday! Brekkie out, lunch out, dinner out. I have got to work on this. --- I went over points - again! --- I didn't track each day and I skipped tracking some things that I knew were bad. --- I only earned 3 APs and I didn't go the gym at all or do any Zumba.
See what I mean?? I was a great, big WW slacker this week.

Goals for the Week:
~Eat right - focus on eating within my points and not going crazy on the weekend
~Earn APs - it is time to make time for the gym and Zumba
**I'm going to stick with that for now. This past week was so bad that I feel like I need to get back to basics.**

Recipes to Share:
Skinnytaste is my absolute favorite foodie blogger. I have never made a recipe of hers that I didn't like. Tonight we made Cheeseburger Casserole. Pasta, ground beef, tomatoes, cheese - what's not to love?? It really was delicious, easy to throw together, and I think it's going to make great leftover lunches. It's a good alternative to ordering cheeseburgers from Five Guys (and way less points too).

*fingers crossed for a good coming week*

His and Her GBU (3/11/13)

Happy Monday one and all! Did Daylight Savings Time really kick you in the butt too? We had a hard time with the whole wake up while still dark and feel an hour behind all day thing. *phew* Anyway, time to link up with two of our faves - Kati and Kate - for the weekly GBU...

Incorporating Color

Good:
We both finished projects at Glazenfyre (the local paint-it-yourself pottery studio) - we will post pics when they are finished being fired.
We had a BLAST with two of our friends on Saturday...hanging out, eating good food, making each other laugh.
Amanda had fun at her Knitting Meetup. A project is within 5 rows of being completed!!! She can't wait to share it here.
Sean went frisbee golfing on Sunday to enjoy the weather. He had a great time!

Bad:
Busy, busy, busy! There does not seem to be enough hours in the weekend to deal with our to-do lists and have a little fun. It seems like we have to choose and that sucks!

Ugly:
Ummm...hard to think of something for this one....Oh!
Our house is pretty ugly right now. It goes with the "Bad". We have enough hours to spot clean (vacuum, dust, stuff like that) but it really does need a good spring cleaning. Not sure when we are going to be able to get that done. *sigh*

How was your weekend? Hope everyone has recovered from the time change.

Happy Monday,

His and Her Sunday Social (3/10/13)

Sunday Social

This Weeks Questions:

1. What is one movie you are terrified to watch?
Amanda - I HATE horror movies. I refuse to watch them because I would not sleep for days after. It's just better if I stick with romantic comedies. :)
Source
Sean - Not really terrified of any movies but there are plenty of gory ones out there. First ones that come to mind would be the Saw movies.

2. What is one TV show you have always wanted to get into but haven’t yet?
Amanda - I have heard great things about Homeland, but we don't have Showtime. Anyone know if it's on Netflix?
Source
Sean - I usually stumble across new series on Netflix and end up watching them there. One series I am interested in seeing in American Horror Story as its received good reviews but I haven't dedicated enough time to watch any of them yet.
Source

3. What is one daring activity on your bucket list?
Amanda - A daring activity on my bucket list? I have quite a few things on my bucket list, but I don't know that I would qualify any of them as daring. Traveling is a big item on the list and I guess in this day and age you could consider that daring...maybe??
Source
Sean - Regular followers of the blog have seen my bucket list and most of the items are pretty daring. If I had to pick one I would say it would be the Pikes Peak Ascent. Its a half marathon that starts at 6500ft (1900m) and you run/walk up to the summit of Pikes Peak which is at 14,110ft (4300m)
Source

4. Would you ever travel alone?

Amanda - Not unless I had to. Half the fun of traveling is getting to spend all that time with Sean.
Sean - I have traveled alone in the past and its been ok. Going solo did give me an opportunity to go to some events and places I would not have been able to otherwise.

5. What activities do you like to do alone?
Amanda - Read (I like peace and quiet so I can focus on the book) and Wii Zumba (I know I am doing the steps wrong, no need for an audience...haha) are the only two coming to mind. I am a pretty social person.
Source
Sean - I like to train by myself when I bike and run. It allows me to train at my own pace and not be rushed or slowed down by another person. During a race it is usually just me versus the clock so training by myself is the best way.
Source

Well that's our social time for Sunday. It is a beautiful day here in VA so Sean is going to play some frisbee golf. Amanda will enjoy her Sunday by getting some school work checked off the to-do list and working on a new knitting project - a scarf. Hope you enjoy whatever this Sunday brings your way.

Happy Sunday,

Her March Currently

A new month means a new link-up with Farley at Oh Boy - Fourth Grade! It's Currently time!

(Typo - Thinking....the state tests are in two weeks. That was complete wishful thinking that I had another week to help my students feel prepared.)

Listening: I love Project Runway and I am really liking this season with the team's twists.

Loving: The high school students in our district have had iPads since the beginning of the year. There has been talk of giving them to the middle schoolers next year. I am super excited to have been chosen as a teacher-tester...meaning that I got an iPad on Tuesday so that I can trial having one in middle school. I love it already!!

Thinking: March 19 and March 20...here we come!

Wanting: There just never seems like there are enough hours in the day. I get up early and come home late -- during the in-between I am running like a chicken with her head cut off. After all that, there are still items that get pushed to the next day. *sigh* I just need more time!

Needing: This piggy-backs completely on the "Wanting" item. I love that my hubbie helps around the house but he has a full-time job too. The house is not wrecked but I know it could be cleaner and needs a deep, spring clean. Maybe during spring break I will have time to get that done.

Like, Love, Hate (the stipulation from Farley - all had to start with the first letter of my first name):
Apps - all the new apps on my iPad are making me happy
Alex - my little fur-baby, coming home to him barking and yelping in excitement never fails to make a bad day better
Arrogance - I cannot stand the whole "I'm so amazing...look at me, look at me" air that people put on. I can be arrogant at times also and it is one of my least favorite traits about myself - something I am definitely working on and wanting to erase.

Happy March!

His: Living in America 03/06/2013

A Blockbuster store closing sale.
Growing up, going to the video store was a wonderful experience. You were surrounded by what seemed like acres of shelves of every genre of movie imaginable and sometimes it was a sensory overload. It was never a quick trip as you needed to check all of the shelves to see which movie was the one you had to watch next. One of the biggest disappointments of your video rental hunt was seeing the movie cover art on the shelf but then discovering the movie was not in stock because all of the plain white cases behind the cover art were gone, indicating that all copies of this movie were currently checked out. Of course the movie you wanted was not in stock so you had to go to your next choice. If you were desperate to see a title, you could go up to the front counter to enquire if someone had recently dropped off a copy of the movie but unless it was close to 6pm when the movies were due back you were often out of luck.

A Redbox kiosk - Source
Sadly in America the experience of going to the video rental store to check out a movie is soon to be nothing more than a fond memory. The video rental store is very quickly going the way of the dodo and there are very few left and most people haven't been to one in ages. I live in a metropolitan area of over half a million people and we probably have less then 10 video rental stores. We used to have 3 video store chains and the only one that is still around is Blockbuster and they are closing more stores every year. The death of the video rental store in America is likely due to the amount of other options for the movie fan. Two of the most popular options for movie rentals are NetFlix and Redbox. For our non American readers here is a brief description of each. Netflix is a "DVD by mail" service where members can rent as many movies as they like for a flat monthly fee. For around $20 per month you can have 3 movies at a time at your home and you simply mail your movies back once you are done and they mail you the next one on the list. The movie library has over 60,000 titles so they likely have the title you want. They also have a streaming service where you can watch 1000's of TV shows and movies for $8 a month. Redbox is a video rental kiosk that has about 100-200 of the more popular titles and rents movies for about $1 per night. The kiosks are located in many different locations and you can return your movie to any kiosks which makes it very convenient. The ease of using services like Netflix and Redbox have made the traditional video store somewhat obsolete and you don't have the outrageous late return fees to deal with either.

In Australia the video rental store business is still alive and well. There are at least 3 major chains that still have a physical store presence in Australian cities and towns. The Redbox style kiosks are starting to appear in different areas but there are still plenty of rental stores for you to hand select your next title. The reason the stores are still so successful in Australia are probably due to the lack of a popular Netflix style service there. It would be harder to set up DVD by mail service in Australia due to the low population and the distances needed to get to the more remote customers. There may come a day where the Australian movie rental store goes the way of the dodo but hopefully that day isn't for a long time yet.

I will have fond memories of going to the video rental store for a while yet. I will likely visit a video rental store or two during my next visit to Australia so I can relive the experience at least one more time. As much as I love the convenience of Netflix and Redbox, nothing will ever replace the experience of wandering through the store and touching the movies rather than reading the synopsis on a computer screen. All this talk about movies makes me want to watch something new. Any suggestions?

Her Weigh-In (3/5/13)

Hello Tuesday and Weigh-In Day! Here are my results...

Weigh-In: -0.4

What I did...
Right - I stayed within my points. --- I did not do any over-snacking. --- I avoided an over indulgence of soda on the weekend. --- We ate out but I tried to make good choices and I tracked all that I ate.

Wrong - I only earned 7 APs this week (lower than I have been lately). --- No gym days this week; my APs were earned at home doing Zumba on the Wii (not bad but it isn't as intense a workout as the one I get at the gym). --- I made a lot of excuses for why I couldn't go to the gym.

Goals for the Week:
~No excuses!
~Make time for the gym
~Eat at home on Friday night

Recipes to Share:
Sean and I are big fans of meatloaf. We make several variations -- like a Chicken Parmesan Meatloaf that I blogged about here. This past week I found a Mexican Meatloaf on the SkinnyKitchen site. We tried it on Sunday night and it was delish! It had all the Mexican elements that you would expect, but still tasted like a meatloaf. You can find the recipe here. If you try it, I would love to know what you think.

We served the meatloaf with this Fiesta Lime Rice by Skinnytaste. It was super easy to pull together and it was very tasty.

Combined, this dinner was 11 points and extremely filling. Loved everything about it!!

*fingers crossed for a good coming week*
