SaturdaySnapshots: Fallout Shelter

Have you liked our "His and Her Hobbies" Facebook page? If not, click here!

Today we are linking up with Melinda at West Metro Mommy for Super Saturday Snapshots.

We took a cruise from New York a few years ago and decided to take a city tour on the day we got back since our flight didn't leave till 7pm. We saw a wide variety of buildings that were all interesting in their own way. At first glance this building was similar to several of the others in the area but then I noticed the yellow sign for the fallout shelter. It would be interesting to know when the shelter was made and how many others there are in Manhattan. It will likely remain a mystery for me but it is fun to wonder about right?

Have you ever seen a fallout shelter sign before? What are you blogging about?

  1. Oh, wow, that fallout shelter sign takes me back! It was in the 60s, and I worked for a county official whose title was Civil Defense and Safety Coordinator...and those shelters were built and the signs went up. They became such a part of our landscape, that we didn't notice them after awhile.

Thanks for sharing! And thanks for visiting my blog.

  4. Oh my. Yes, I remember fallout shelters. We used to practice surviving a nuclear attack in school, too. We would go under our desk and put our biggest textbook over the back of our neck.

    Here's my Saturday Snapshot!

  5. Now I'm going to be on the lookout for fallout shelters! I like the juxtaposition of the ornate door and windows with the utilitarian sign. Nice photo.

  6. I don't think I've ever seen a fallout shelter, or even the sign for one.

  7. I think I might have seen a fall out shelter sign in my youth, but nothing recently. Soon I'll be blogging about the recent trip I took :)
